Match report by Lorne King.

On Sunday the St. Julians sub-16 Rugby boys faced one of their toughest challenges of the season against the B team of one of Portugal`s powerhouse rugby clubs, CDUL. Both sides entered the game unbeaten so far, and in those circumstances it is often the battle of wills that determines who prevails.

Our boys certainly showed they had the desire as they started off firing on all cylinders. CDUL had no answer as they were effectively blown off the paddock in the first half. With António Espirito Santo at his barnstorming best, Julian's received front foot ball for our clinical finishers - João Caneças, Christian Bader and José Maria Novais - to do what they do well and score some tries. With the score at 22-0 at half time there was no way back for CDUL.

The team did drop their intensity a little in the second half, as it was almost impossible to replicate that sort of play for a whole game. The final result a 27-5 victory for St. Julian's. The forwards laid the platform for the win with their physicality and an improved scrum performance led by Bernardo Gomes in the front row.

Well done lads!
