End of Season Dinner and Player Awards 2014

The Sub-14s celebrate their Team of the Season Award

With 180 players, coaches, parents and friends packed into St. Julian's School Main Hall, the Rugby Club's End of Season and Tour Fundraising Dinner again proved to be a hugely enjoyable evening.  

Maria Gaivão, President of Escolinha de Rugby da Galiza, was the guest of honour and former Rugby international Joe Gardener presented the prizes. 

Santiago de Oriol and Jens de Pooter respectively won the Senior and Junior Player of the Season Awards the Sub-14 Team, in spite of various attempts to influence the judges by the Sub-18 head coach, won the trophy for the Team of the Season. In all, twenty six player awards were presented. Mr Carlos Pimenta picked up a Special Award for Best Pie Supplier 2010-2014, albeit against limited opposition.

The raffle proved very successful, with generous donations from many quarters. Eyebrows were raised at the extraordinary success of the various generations of the Hubert family, although young Sydney Rous, who pulled the winning tickets out of the bag, was under close supervision at all times and considered beyond reproach. In total, the event succeeded in raising over €3,000 for next season's Tour Fund. 

Many thanks are due to: St. Julian's School for hosting the event; donors of prizes for the raffle/auction; Aldeia Catering for providing an excellent meal; Jessica Hubert for all her hard work in organising the Dinner; Pedro Torres, Ben Hubert and Franziscus Frost for their technical support and Sarah Roberts for putting the age-group slide-shows presentations together; the IB students who helped look after the sub-8/10 tables, and to all those who attended the dinner and made it so much fun on the night.
