The End of Season and Tour Fundraising Dinner took place on Saturday 26th May and once again proved to be a very enjoyable and successful event.

With over 220 players, coaches, parents and friends packed into St. Julian's School Main Hall, the Rugby Club's End of Season and Tour Fundraising Dinner was an even bigger event than last year, and proved to be a highly enjoyable evening.

Guests of honour were Errol Brain, Portugal National Team Coach, and two of his players, Carl Murray and Jacques le Roux, who dined with the players and were on hand to give out the prizes.

Patrick Frost and Santiago de Oriol won the Player of the Season Awards for Junior and Senior Rugby Clubs respectively, and the Sub-12/16 Teams shared the Trophy for the Team of the Season.

Tomás Reid and Tomás Flora da Silva were named as the winners of the Sharks Summer Academy Prize, generously sponsored by On-Media. They will travel to South Africa with Tobias Tirei from Galiza in July.

In all twenty seven player awards were presented with the winners listed in the table below.

Speeches were given by age-group coaches Samy Djavidnia, Jamie Wilkinson, Kathiramalai Sriparam, Ollie Hartwright, Tom Rains and Damian Steele, with irrepressible guest Peter Dawson muscling in with two impromptu speeches of his own.

A special delight was provided by Aaron Jones, who performed a traditional Maori haka with considerable aplomb, as can be verified on this exclusive video clip:

The Silent Auction was, once again, hugely successful, with generous donations from many quarters. In total, nearly €2,000 was raised from the Silent Auction alone, which, together with ticket sales, meant that the event succeeded in raising close to €5,000 for next season's Tour Fund, much needed in view of our plans to travel to South Africa with the sub-18s in 2013.

Many thanks are due to: St. Julian's School for hosting the event; Dinner Sponsor Imperius Asset Management; donors of prizes for the Silent Auction; Aldeia Catering for providing such fine fare; Jessica Hubert for all her hard work in organising the Dinner; all those parents who helped decorate the Hall so splendidly; André Gomes for his technical support; the IB students who helped look after the sub-8 tables, and to all those who attended the dinner and made it so much fun on the night.
